Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded to women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study at accredited U.S. institutions during the fellowship year in one of the designated degree programs where women’s participation traditionally has been low. The Alaska Fellows Program is a year-year-long fellowship that places dynamic college graduates with organizations across Alaska. Fellows are supported by teams of well-connected members of the Anchorage, Juneau, Sitka, and Fairbanks communities who help make introductions, integrate the class of fellows into the community, and share high-octane Alaska experiences in outdoor, civic, and community life. Fellows across the four sites live communally and attend program-funded events that draw together all twenty-plus fellows across all four sites to cultivate connections, friendships, and common identity at the beginning and end of the program. *Note: Individuals who are committed to living in Alaska after the fellowship period are more competitive.

The Banyan Impact Fellowship (formerly the William J. Clinton Fellowship) for Service in India is an immersive, 12-month volunteer service program matching young professionals with development organizations. Fellows work on scalable and sustainable development projects in the fields of education, livelihoods, and public health.  Through collaboration and capacity-building, fellows work with the American India Foundation and civil society leaders to form dynamic partnerships to capacity-build, exchange knowledge and skills, and share a mutual passion for advancing social and economic development. Fellows support AIF partner organizations at a crucial moment of scalability by meeting their human resource and organizational needs through skills-sharing, training, and capacity-building. Responsibilities vary based on a fellow’s skills, experience, and interests. Previous projects have included: program design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, graphic design, videography, data collection and visualization, developing digital content, event planning, qualitative and quantitative research, creative writing, curriculum design, fundraising, teaching, training teachers, community organizing, managing information systems, and marketing and communications. Each fellow is paired with a project supervisor at the host organization and with AIF staff member for support throughout the project.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers year-long fellowships and short term (1-3 months) fellowships to graduate students (preferably conducting dissertation research) and academic professionals interested in pursuing research or creative-arts projects in the Nordic region (Denmark, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sámpi, and Sweden). Priority is given to candidates at the graduate level for dissertation-related research. The number of awards varies each year according to total funds available. Awards are made in all fields.

The American Prospect Writing Fellows program offers emerging journalists the opportunity to spend two years at The American Prospect magazine in Washington, D.C., to develop their journalistic skills. A passion for politics, policy and digital journalism is a prerequisite. Fellows must make a one-year commitment to the program. Students conduct hands-on research in the lab alongside top faculty, participate in seminars and networking events, and take part in symposia with their peers and leading scientists. Amgen Scholars is hosted at fourteen premier educational institutions within the United States. Each host institution has its own application process. The Blakemore Foundation was founded in 1990 by Tom and Frances Blakemore for the purpose of providing fellowships for the advanced study of Asian languages and grants to facilitate the introduction of Asian art to communities in the United States.

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships are awarded for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters) of advanced level language study in East or Southeast Asia. Eligible languages are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Khmer, Thai, and Vietnamese. Fellowships cover tuition, and a stipend for related educational expenses, basic living costs and transportation. The Blakemore Foundation makes grants for study only at specific language programs.

The Bridging Scholarship is a life-changing opportunity to study abroad in Japan in a credit-bearing semester or academic-year program. Each year approximately 70-100 academically outstanding, financially deserving U.S. undergraduate students are selected as Bridging Scholars. In addition to receiving a cash stipend, Bridging Scholars participate in cohort programming designed to assist students build a future as a global citizen with a lifelong connection to Japan.

The term of study can be the Fall 2024 semester, the 2024-25 academic year, or the Spring 2025 semester. These scholarships are not given for summer study programs in Japan.

Capital fellows engage in public service and prepare for future careers while actively contributing to the development and implementation of public policy in California. Fellows in each program work as full-time members for 10 or 11 months, are employees of Sacramento State University, and are typically given assignments with a significant responsibility and challenge. Fellows also enroll as graduate students at Sacramento State University and receive graduate units from the university's Government Department or Public Policy and Administration Program.

The CBYX for Young Professionals is a fellowship of the U.S. Department of State and the German Bundestag. Annually 75 American and 75 German young professionals, ages 18.5-24, spend one year in each other's countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program. Fellows will participate in a German Language Phase (Aug-Sept), a Study Phase (Oct-Jan) at a German university or technical college, and an Internship Phase (Feb-June) to gain work experience in Germany.

The InterExchange Foundation Christianson Grant provides awards of up to $10,000 to motivated young Americans who create and carry out their own meaningful service projects abroad. Past grantees’ projects have focused on multiple international issues, including public health, environmental conservation, legal advocacy, women’s and girls’ rights, microfinance, education, and poverty alleviation, among other topics. Grantees share their experiences via regular blog posts about their project and a completion report in order to further international understanding and promote cultural awareness. Projects should focus on an issue and a region of the world about which applicants are passionate, and should showcase specific skill-sets and the tangible, sustainable contributions to be made to a community abroad. Proposed programs must be at least six months in length and emphasize a work, internship, and/or volunteer component. Grant applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents between the ages of 18 and 28.

RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Germany offers undergraduate students from North American, British and Irish universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. RISE Germany is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

  • Students are matched with a host university or institute according to their area of interest (biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering, or a closely related field)
  • DAAD provides students a monthly stipend for three months to help cover living expenses
  • Host universities, universities of applied sciences (UAS) and institutes provide housing assistance and match students with Ph.D. student mentors or researchers (only UAS)

RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Professional offers summer research internships in Germany to Master’s and Ph.D. students from USA, Canada, Great Britain or Ireland at companies and non-university research institutions with strong relations to industry. Undergraduates who are RISE Germany alumni are also eligible. Depending on the internship, recent graduates are also eligible. RISE Professional is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

The Pre-Doctoral Fellowships are paid, two-year research awards in six scientific sub-specialties for college graduates who will dedicate two years to research in autism prior to entering graduate studies. Fellows will participate in and guide innovative research as well as work with children and families affected by autism. Fellows will receive mentorship from program directors and Marcus Autism Center faculty members. A summer training seminar will cover clinical research in ASD, ASD grand rounds meetings, social neuroscience lab meetings, training tutorials in relevant statistical software, and ongoing practica. The six sub-specialties are:

  • Cohen Fellowship in Developmental Social Neuroscience. Involves cutting-edge social neuroscience research in infants, toddlers, and adolescents. Fellows will work to further the understanding of autism through eye-tracking research and project guidance from the point of data collection to publication of results.
  • Simons Fellowship in Computational Neuroscience. Involves integrating computational strategies with clinical research goals. Fellows develop methods for analysis of visual scanning and eye-tracking data, computational models of visual salience, and data visualization techniques, all with the aim of advancing the understanding of autism and efforts at early diagnosis.
  • Marcus Fellowship in Speech Science and Engineering. Involves research in early vocal development, including speech production and speech perception, as part of a program to map out typical and atypical development of spoken communication in early childhood.
  • Education Sciences Fellowship. Involves research in educational innovations in autism, from early child care through high school. Fellows will learn about classroom-based interventions to increase social emotional engagement and inclusion, gaining experiences with observational research methods, cutting-edge intervention research, and implementation science approaches.
  • Clinical Research Fellowship. Involves in-depth clinical and research experience through work with infants, toddlers, and school-aged children spanning the full autism spectrum. Fellows will learn assessment measures across a variety of domains commonly used for clinical an diagnostic characterization of autism and related disorders.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the FAIT Fellowship is a two-year fellowship that will set recipients on a path to a career in the Foreign Service by providing academic funding for an IT-related degree, internships, professional development and mentorship---culminating in an appointment in the Foreign Service as a Diplomatic Technology Officer (DTO). There is a minimum five-year service commitment in the Department of State's Foreign Service Officer Program. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's German Chancellor Fellowship Program targets prospective decision-makers, multipliers and thought leaders from a broad range of professional fields such as politics, economics, media, administration, and culture. The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in under-represented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.

Global Health Corps offers a one-year paid fellowship in which fellows make a significant, measurable contribution to a partner organization in the U.S. and its target population. GHC recruits partner organizations involved in healthcare access and positive health outcomes for the poor. The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid internship at a NOAA facility during the summer.

The internship between the first and second years of the award provides the scholars with hands-on, practical experience in NOAA-related science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities. Awards also include travel funds to attend a mandatory NOAA Scholarship Program orientation and the annual Science & Education Symposium, scientific conferences where students present their research, and a housing subsidy for scholars who do not reside at home during the summer internship.

IRT addresses lack of diversity in the nation's teaching faculties by recruiting outstanding students and other scholars committed to diversity. IRT sponsors a summer workshop for students who apply to the program during their junior or senior year of college. Participants engage in a graduate-level curriculum of critical, cultural, and educational theory during an intense four-week program in July. IRT also selects approximately 90 outstanding students to enroll in its Associate Program, which is open to juniors, seniors, recent graduates, and working professionals.

The Karel Fellowship is an eight-week, paid, summer program that encourages first-generation and/or Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color students to consider professional opportunities in the field of public interest communications. The Fellowship is focused on translating personal passion for a more just world into communication skills that elicit social change. The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in the United States to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in Canada. The aim of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan is to foster educational ambassadors who will become bridges of friendship between the scholarship recipient's country and Japan through study in Japan. These ambassadors will contribute to the development of both countries and the world in general. MEXT offers scholarships to international teachers who wish to conduct research on school education at designated Japanese universities as Teacher Training Students. Applicants must be graduates of universities or teacher training schools and have worked as teachers at primary/secondary educational institutions or teacher training schools (excluding universities) in their home countries for five years or more in total.

Also established under MEXT, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) offers scholarship programs for international students. The purpose of these programs is to foster the development of creative individuals who, rich in humanism, will become the leaders of society in the next generation, at the same time it promotes international understanding and exchange. Most scholarships provided through JASSO are targeted for undergraduate and graduate students at universities.

MTC is a two-year alternate-route graduate program that trains individuals to teach in high-poverty public schools in Mississippi. Participants live and teach in rural and urban communities. While teaching, each participant earns a master's degree in teaching from the University of Mississippi and receives training and support from MTC.

MURAP's objective is to facilitate the entrance of talented students from diverse backgrounds into graduate school leading to faculty positions within the humanities, social sciences and fine arts in U.S. colleges and universities. Each summer, students participate in an intensive 10-week research experience at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The program includes a research project, weekly meetings with a faculty mentor, weekly seminars, and weekly courses in preparation for the Graduate Record Exam.

The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually.  The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

The one-time non-renewable scholarships are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring).  Each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.

The Newhouse Diversity News Fellowship is a highly competitive 18-month program that provides two generous awards each year to minority students. The winners study in the magazine, newspaper and digital journalism master’s program at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. While attending classes, students work as part-time reporting interns for Advance Media New York, where they build clips and get on-the-job training.
